Legend has it some railroad official saw the skin of a raccoon nailed up on the wall of a depot, and the shape of the poor critter's hide all splayed out on the wall inspired the design of the Frisco logo. In 1916 the company was reorganized as the St. Louis – San Francisco Railway, though the line never went west of Texas. It is interesting to note that the word FRISCO itself has an interesting origin. The FR is taken from San FRancisco, the IS from St. LouIS, and the CO for COmpany, Thus the St. Louis and San Francisco Railroad Company was symbolized.
